Psalm 140
\nPrayer for Protection against the Wicked.
\nFor the choir director. A Psalm of David.<\/p>\n

Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men;
\nPreserve me from violent men
\n2
\nWho devise evil things in their hearts;
\nThey continually stir up wars.
\n3
\nThey sharpen their tongues as a serpent;
\nPoison of a viper is under their lips. Selah.<\/p>\n

\nKeep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
\nPreserve me from violent men
\nWho have purposed to trip up my feet<\/strong>.
\n5
\nThe proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords;
\nThey have spread a net by the wayside;
\nThey have set snares for me. Selah.<\/p>\n

\nI said to the Lord, \u201cYou are my God;
\nGive ear, O Lord, to the voice of my supplications.
\n7
\n\u201cO God the Lord, the strength of my salvation,
\nYou have covered my head in the day of battle<\/strong>.
\n8
\n\u201cDo not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;
\nDo not promote his evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cAs for the head of those who surround me,
\nMay the mischief of their lips cover them.
\n10
\n\u201cMay burning coals fall upon them;
\nMay they be cast into the fire,
\nInto deep pits from which they cannot rise.
\n11
\n\u201cMay a slanderer not be established in the earth;
\nMay evil hunt the violent man speedily.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nI know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted
\nAnd justice for the poor.
\n13
\nSurely the righteous will give thanks to Your name;
\nThe upright will dwell in Your presence.<\/p>\n
