The next biblical war<\/p>\n
Concerning the sons of Ammon. Thus says the Lord:
\n\u201cDoes Israel have no sons?
\nOr has he no heirs?
\nWhy then has Malcam taken possession of Gad
\nAnd his people settled in its cities?
\n\u201cTherefore behold, the days are coming,\u201d declares the Lord,
\n\u201cThat I will cause a trumpet blast of war to be heard
\nAgainst Rabbah of the sons of Ammon;
\nAnd it will become a desolate heap,
\nAnd her towns will be set on fire.
\nThen Israel will take possession of his possessors,\u201d
\nSays the Lord.
\n\u201cWail, O Heshbon, for Ai has been destroyed!
\nCry out, O daughters of Rabbah,
\nGird yourselves with sackcloth and lament,
\nAnd rush back and forth inside the walls;
\nFor Malcam will go into exile
\nTogether with his priests and his princes.
\n\u201cHow boastful you are about the valleys!
\nYour valley is flowing away,
\nO backsliding daughter
\nWho trusts in her treasures, saying,
\n\u2018Who will come against me?\u2019
\n\u201cBehold, I am going to bring terror upon you,\u201d
\nDeclares the Lord God of hosts,
\n\u201cFrom all directions around you;
\nAnd each of you will be driven out headlong,
\nWith no one to gather the fugitives together.
\n\u201cBut afterward I will restore
\nThe fortunes of the sons of Ammon,\u201d
\nDeclares the Lord.<\/p>\n
Concerning Edom.
\nThus says the Lord of hosts,
\n\u201cIs there no longer any wisdom in Teman?
\nHas good counsel been lost to the prudent?
\nHas their wisdom decayed?
\n\u201cFlee away, turn back, dwell in the depths,
\nO inhabitants of Dedan,
\nFor I will bring the disaster of Esau upon him
\nAt the time I punish him.
\n\u201cIf grape gatherers came to you,
\nWould they not leave gleanings?
\nIf thieves came by night,
\nThey would destroy only until they had enough.
\n\u201cBut I have stripped Esau bare,
\nI have uncovered his hiding places
\nSo that he will not be able to conceal himself;
\nHis offspring has been destroyed along with his relatives
\nAnd his neighbors, and he is no more.
\n\u201cLeave your orphans behind, I will keep them alive;
\nAnd let your widows trust in Me.\u201d
\nFor thus says the Lord, \u201cBehold, those who were not sentenced to drink the cup will certainly drink it, and are you the one who will be completely acquitted? You will not be acquitted, but you will certainly drink it. 13 For I have sworn by Myself,\u201d declares the Lord, \u201cthat Bozrah will become an object of horror, a reproach, a ruin and a curse; and all its cities will become perpetual ruins.\u201d
\nI have heard a message from the Lord,
\nAnd an envoy is sent among the nations, saying,
\n\u201cGather yourselves together and come against her,
\nAnd rise up for battle!\u201d
\n\u201cFor behold, I have made you small among the nations,
\nDespised among men.
\n\u201cAs for the terror of you,
\nThe arrogance of your heart has deceived you,
\nO you who live in the clefts of the rock,
\nWho occupy the height of the hill.
\nThough you make your nest as high as an eagle\u2019s,
\nI will bring you down from there,\u201d declares the Lord.
\n\u201cEdom will become an object of horror; everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss at all its wounds. Like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah with its neighbors,\u201d says the Lord, \u201cno one will live there, nor will a son of man reside in it. Behold, one will come up like a lion from the thickets of the Jordan against a perennially watered pasture; for in an instant I will make him run away from it, and whoever is chosen I shall appoint over it. For who is like Me, and who will summon Me into court? And who then is the shepherd who can stand against Me?\u201d
\nTherefore hear the plan of the Lord which He has planned against Edom, and His purposes which He has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: surely they will drag them off, even the little ones of the flock; surely He will make their pasture desolate because of them. The earth has quaked at the noise of their downfall. There is an outcry! The noise of it has been heard at the Red Sea. Behold, He will mount up and swoop like an eagle and spread out His wings against Bozrah; and the hearts of the mighty men of Edom in that day will be like the heart of a woman in labor.<\/p>\n
Concerning Damascus.
\n\u201cHamath and Arpad are put to shame,
\nFor they have heard bad news;
\nThey are disheartened.
\nThere is anxiety by the sea,
\nIt cannot be calmed.
\n\u201cDamascus has become helpless;
\nShe has turned away to flee,
\nAnd panic has gripped her;
\nDistress and pangs have taken hold of her
\nLike a woman in childbirth.
\n\u201cHow the city of praise has not been deserted,
\nThe town of My joy!
\n\u201cTherefore, her young men will fall in her streets,
\nAnd all the men of war will be silenced in that day,\u201d declares the Lord of hosts.
\n\u201cI will set fire to the wall of Damascus,
\nAnd it will devour the fortified towers of Ben-hadad.\u201d<\/p>\n
Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated. Thus says the Lord,
\n\u201cArise, go up to Kedar
\nAnd devastate the men of the east.
\n\u201cThey will take away their tents and their flocks;
\nThey will carry off for themselves
\nTheir tent curtains, all their goods and their camels,
\nAnd they will call out to one another, \u2018Terror on every side!\u2019
\n\u201cRun away, flee! Dwell in the depths,
\nO inhabitants of Hazor,\u201d declares the Lord;
\n\u201cFor Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has formed a plan against you
\nAnd devised a scheme against you.
\n\u201cArise, go up against a nation which is at ease,
\nWhich lives securely,\u201d declares the Lord.
\n\u201cIt has no gates or bars;
\nThey dwell alone.
\n\u201cTheir camels will become plunder,
\nAnd their many cattle for booty,
\nAnd I will scatter to all the winds those who cut the corners of their hair;
\nAnd I will bring their disaster from every side,\u201d declares the Lord.
\n\u201cHazor will become a haunt of jackals,
\nA desolation forever;
\nNo one will live there,
\nNor will a son of man reside in it.\u201d<\/p>\n
That which came as the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying:
\n\u201cThus says the Lord of hosts,
\n\u2018Behold, I am going to break the bow of Elam,
\nThe finest of their might.
\n\u2018I will bring upon Elam the four winds
\nFrom the four ends of heaven,
\nAnd will scatter them to all these winds;
\nAnd there will be no nation
\nTo which the outcasts of Elam will not go.
\n\u2018So I will shatter Elam before their enemies
\nAnd before those who seek their lives;
\nAnd I will bring calamity upon them,
\nEven My fierce anger,\u2019 declares the Lord,
\n\u2018And I will send out the sword after them
\nUntil I have consumed them.
\n\u2018Then I will set My throne in Elam
\nAnd destroy out of it king and princes,\u2019
\nDeclares the Lord.
\n\u2018But it will come about in the last days
\nThat I will restore the fortunes of Elam,\u2019\u201d
\nDeclares the Lord.<\/p>\n
O God, do not remain quiet;
\n Do not be silent and, O God, do not be still.
\nFor, behold, Thine enemies make an uproar;
\n And those who hate Thee have exalted themselves.
\nThey make shrewd plans against Thy people,
\n And conspire together against Thy treasured ones.
\nThey have said, \u201cCome, and let us wipe them out as a nation,
\n That the name of Israel be remembered no more.\u201d
\nFor they have conspired together with one mind;
\n Against Thee do they make a covenant:
\nThe tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
\n Moab, and the Hagrites;
\nGebal, and Ammon, and Amalek;
\n Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
\nAssyria also has joined with them;
\n They have become a help to the children of Lot. Selah.
\nDeal with them as with Midian,
\n As with Sisera and Jabin, at the torrent of Kishon,
\nWho were destroyed at En-dor,
\n Who became as dung for the ground.
\nMake their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
\n And all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
\nWho said, \u201cLet us possess for ourselves
\n The pastures of God.\u201d
\nO my God, make them like the whirling dust;
\n Like chaff before the wind.
\nLike fire that burns the forest,
\n And like a flame that sets the mountains on fire,
\nSo pursue them with Thy tempest,
\n And terrify them with Thy storm.
\nFill their faces with dishonor,
\n That they may seek Thy name, O LORD.
\nLet them be ashamed and dismayed forever;
\n And let them be humiliated and perish,
\nThat they may know that Thou alone, whose name is the LORD,
\n Art the Most High over all the earth.<\/p>\n
The oracle concerning Damascus.<\/p>\n
\u201cBehold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city
\nAnd will become a fallen ruin.
\n\u201cThe cities of Aroer are forsaken;
\nThey will be for flocks to lie down in,
\nAnd there will be no one to frighten them.
\n\u201cThe fortified city will disappear from Ephraim,
\nAnd sovereignty from Damascus
\nAnd the remnant of Aram;
\nThey will be like the glory of the sons of Israel,\u201d
\nDeclares the Lord of hosts.<\/p>\n
Now in that day the glory of Jacob will fade,
\nAnd the fatness of his flesh will become lean.
\nIt will be even like the reaper gathering the standing grain,
\nAs his arm harvests the ears,
\nOr it will be like one gleaning ears of grain
\nIn the valley of Rephaim.
\nYet gleanings will be left in it like the shaking of an olive tree,
\nTwo or three olives on the topmost bough,
\nFour or five on the branches of a fruitful tree,
\nDeclares the Lord, the God of Israel.
\nIn that day man will have regard for his Maker
\nAnd his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel.
\nHe will not have regard for the altars, the work of his hands,
\nNor will he look to that which his fingers have made,
\nEven the Asherim and incense stands.
\nIn that day their strong cities will be like forsaken places in the forest,
\nOr like branches which they abandoned before the sons of Israel;
\nAnd the land will be a desolation.
\nFor you have forgotten the God of your salvation
\nAnd have not remembered the rock of your refuge.
\nTherefore you plant delightful plants
\nAnd set them with vine slips of a strange god.
\nIn the day that you plant it you carefully fence it in,
\nAnd in the morning you bring your seed to blossom;
\nBut the harvest will be a heap
\nIn a day of sickliness and incurable pain.<\/p>\n
Alas, the uproar of many peoples
\nWho roar like the roaring of the seas,
\nAnd the rumbling of nations
\nWho rush on like the rumbling of mighty waters!
\nThe nations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters,
\nBut He will rebuke them and they will flee far away,
\nAnd be chased like chaff in the mountains before the wind,
\nOr like whirling dust before a gale.
\nAt evening time, behold, there is terror!
\nBefore morning they are no more.
\nSuch will be the portion of those who plunder us
\nAnd the lot of those who pillage us.<\/p>\n
